The food distribution areas at UnitingCare Geelong are an integral part of the emergency relief services provided by the organisation, with food being a basic need of clients in emergency situations.
As food premises, the food areas operate under the Victorian Food Act, and are registered with VicRelief Foodbank, and the Geelong Food Relief Centre as their agent, where we can access donated food.
A monthly budget allows for the purchase of basic food items, and generous donations of food are received on a regular basis from church congregations, schools and the wider community. With this ongoing support we are able to offer clients a varied selection for their choice.
As volunteers at UnitingCare Geelong we all wish to contribute to helping the marginalised and vulnerable in our community. Being able to give practical assistance to families in crisis with basic food is rewarding. While the need is here we will all give willingly of our time and talents to continue the work of UnitingCare Geelong.
